External load operations are conducted under CASR Part 133 with approved procedures in our Operations Manual covering human external cargo exclusion, load release systems, exclusion zone management and operations over populous areas.

Each task is authorised individually. The pilot in command signs the load plan against calculated performance for the day, and holds authority to stop or refuse any lift. That authority is not commercial and is never overridden.

Certified copies of the AOC and Operations Manual extracts are supplied with tender responses.

04

Process

SWMS and JSA, from enquiry to sign-off

01

Enquiry and desktop review

Load weight, dimensions, lifting points, address and access are recorded. We check airspace, terrain, populous area status and obstacle environment before quoting.

02

Site assessment

For rooftops, live plant, over-water tasks and loads near hook capacity we attend site, photograph approaches, measure the exclusion zone and confirm laydown positions.

03

SWMS issued

A Safe Work Method Statement specific to the task covers downwash, exclusion zone control, hook-up and release, load release failure, communications loss and emergency landing areas.

04

JSA on the morning

A Job Safety Analysis is completed on site with all parties before the first pick, against the conditions of the day, and signed by the pilot in command and the loadmaster.

05

Pre-flight brief

Every person inside the exclusion zone attends: frequencies, hand signals, abort calls, load path, ground positions, and who has authority to stop the lift. Anyone can call a stop.

06

Load plan sign-off

Performance is calculated for temperature, elevation, fuel state and working radius. Rigging is inspected and load cell zeroed. The pilot in command signs before launch.

07

Operations and monitoring

Load cell telemetry, fuel state and cycle times are monitored throughout. Weather is reassessed each cycle. Stand-down criteria are agreed in writing before the first pick.

08

Close-out and record

Loads placed, cycles flown, hours and any occurrence are documented and issued to the client. Photographs and the signed JSA form part of the record.

Documents are issued before mobilisation, not on the day. If your principal contractor requires them on a specific template or through a specific portal, tell us at enquiry and we will meet it.

Every pilot flying external loads for us holds a current Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter), a sling endorsement, and recurrent training on type including vertical-reference long line work.

Loadmasters and ground riggers hold dogging or rigging tickets appropriate to the load, plus our internal exclusion zone and hook-up competency. Competency records are maintained in the pack.

Fatigue is managed under a documented scheme with hard limits on duty and flight time. A long regional day ends when the scheme says it ends.
