Airspace, weather, terrain and approvals decide whether a lift flies — not the hook rating. This is the operating picture we plan every Moreton Bay & Islands task against.
Getting a crane to Russell or Macleay means barging the crane, the truck and the load, then finding somewhere on a narrow island road to set up. A day of barge slots, ferry bookings and vehicle limits collapses into a 20-minute flight. We routinely price against a client's barge quote and win on both time and cost.
Bay barge and ferry services are suspended in strong wind and heavy weather, sometimes for days, and vehicle barges run to a tide-affected timetable. The aircraft's limits are different from the vessel's — there are days when we fly and the barge does not, which is when urgent island work gets done.
North Stradbroke and Moreton Island carry significant cultural heritage, Quandamooka native title interests and protected dune and wetland systems. Landing points, overflight and set-down areas are agreed in advance with traditional owners and land managers rather than chosen on the day.
Moreton Bay sits under Brisbane's arrival and departure corridors, including traffic to the new parallel runway. Bay crossings are flown on established coastal and bay VFR routes with continuous coordination, which sometimes dictates a longer track than the direct line.
Every bay crossing is an over-water task. Aircraft are flown with flotation where required, and the load path is planned to keep the jettison corridor clear of boat channels, moorings and the popular anchorages off Peel and Coochiemudlo.
